A Comprehensive Sliding Mode Approach For Photovoltaic-Storage Islanded Microgrids
Climate change, air pollution and energy costs impose new energy paradigms in order to meet the goals of a sustainable energy transition. Islanded Microgrids (MGs) are the most effective structures to integrate Renewable Energy Sources (RES), as Photovoltaic (PV) units. PV plants are often connected in parallel with Storage (ST) units in order to exploit them in the most efficient way. In this context primary control level plays a central role. This paper presents a novel approach for primary control level of PV-ST MGs based on Sliding Mode Controllers (SMC) without communication infrastructure between converters. The converter SMC strategy is fully analysed defining control schemes and detailing the control functionalities. Then results show improved performance respect to conventional approach based on PID controllers.
